Quality Human Hair Extensions versus Synthetic Hair Extensions

Before getting into the various kinds of hair extension techniques, the principal thing you have to think about is the type and quality of the hair.  NYC Hair Extensions come in human hair and synthetic hair. Things being what they are, what is the contrast between them?

How Hair Extensions Are Made

Human hair extensions are actually what they sound like. They are made out of genuine, human hair gathered from one or several donors. Remy hair implies that every one of the cuticles are in-tact, running in the same direction. This insures no tangling and guarantees that the hair stays smooth and velvety all throughout its lifetime.

However, not all “human hair” is necessarily good quality as it depends on the quality of the source of the hair along with the processing methods.  Remy is a general term used all over the internet which doesn’t always mean you’re going to get high quality hair that doesn’t tangle and matte.  There are no standards or regulations, so it comes down to having a trusted source.

Synthetic hair, then again, is made out of different synthetic, mixed filaments, and contains no human hair. These strands are typically extremely fine, plastic filaments produced to mirror genuine human hair.  You cannot use any hot tools as they will burn the hair.

Look and Feel

Both genuine and synthetic extensions come in numerous styles, hues, and various types of use. The nature of synthetic strands can fluctuate. However, they are commonly firm and move uniquely in contrast to human hair, so they do not mix well with your regular hair. They occasionally have a wiry or coarse feel to the touch. High quality human hair looks and feels genuine and hence blends normally with your hair.

Coloring and Styling

You can deal with human hair extensions similarly to your own hair. You can fix, twist, blow-dry, color, and use hot hair tools. With synthetic hair, you cannot color the hair as most color contains ammonia and dye.  Synthetic hair is closed and does not take the color. Moreover, you cannot style synthetic hair the same way as human hair since heat can harm it.  Hair curlers, straighteners and blow dryers are a no, as they will melt or seriously harm the hair. Other factors such as sun, rough contact, or perspiration can likewise harm synthetic hair extensions.

Quality and How Long Hair Extensions Last

Synthetic hair is less expensive than genuine hair so with that, comes a trade-off. Since it is made out of manufactured filaments, it does not last as long as human hair. Generally, synthetic hair extensions only last for a couple of months, while human hair expansions can last as much as one year or so depending on the texture, method, and maintenance. Hair extensions in NYC done at a reputed salon can last a long time.

In closing, you can easily deal with human hair and style it easily like your own hair. Therefore, it will look and feel natural. The hair mixes effortlessly with your hair and lasts longer than synthetic hair. Despite the fact that synthetic hair is less expensive than genuine human hair, synthetic hair does not look as natural, cannot be styled with heating instruments, and does not last as long.

Let us now have a look at some of the different types of hair extensions that you can have.

Clip-in Hair Extensions

Clip-in wefts, otherwise called clip in hair extensions, consist of several pieces of hair sewn together to create various thickness and length.  Clips sewn to the weft make them come ready to wear. You can simply clip the pieces to your own hair!

Tape-In Hair Extensions

Tape hair extensions are actually, what they sound like. The pre-taped extensions are sandwiched together on either side of a small section of your own hair.  It is best to have a professional apply the tape-ins for a good result.  Since you have to maintain them every several weeks by removing and re-applying them to the roots of your hair, you want someone who knows what they’re doing to avoid any damage or issues.  The hair on good quality tape-in extensions can be re-used for about 6 months and won’t get “gunky” and pull your own hair when removing.

Sew-In Hair Extensions

Hand tied hair extensions (aka – micro-links among others) have become a popular type of sew in.  They are flat small wefts sewn on top of flat beads that are attached to your own hair.  This method is flat, seamless and generally non-damaging to the clients’ own hair. Custom Hair by Catherine was one of the first salons to offer this method about 15 years ago.

This method has mostly replaced the original weave method using corn rows or a weave pole technique unless the client wants their own hair cornrowed out of the way, so extension hair can be sewn to the top of the head.

Fusion and Pre-Bonded Hair Extensions

Fusion hair extensions are individual pieces of hair extension intertwined with small pieces of the client’s own hair utilizing various methods such as bonding or micro-link. Applying pre-bonded hair extensions can take roughly 3-8 hours. These methods of extensions are generally not recommended for all customers as it can be extremely harmful to your regular hair.  The application includes a machine that resembles a heated glue gun, which sticks the hair extension to individual strands of the regular hair. Another type of pre-bonded hair extension utilizes a heat clasp to melt the glue onto the client’s hair.  Removal of these types of extension tends to thin out most people’s hair.
